Looking back from a time when people will be using less of everything (either as a result of intelligent action or from necessity) - what will future generations think of what we have done with the naturally limited, species shared, renewable resource, 'biomass'?
We relied on above ground biomass in the distant past, later on the really old biomass found underground - and are now thinking of widespread burning of wood again - even though burning wood emits as much carbon dioxide as coal. Is it ‘green’ to use wood as a fuel ‘because it grows again’, or do we see wood as something to make beautiful art and warm buildings from, squirreling away carbon as we go?
