As society moves beyond its addiction to oil, we will relearn the craft of making things by hand. A well-designed and honed set of hand tools will be essential. In my work as an architectural designer and maker I have discovered that there is a sense of achievement, empowerment and joy associated with working with your hands, using your body, working outside in all elements, and collaborating with other people.
A hand-crafted space holds characteristics and anomalies that a perfect machine-fabricated structure lacks. These add soul and delight to our homes, neighbourhoods, places of work and play.
