This acacia pod represents the inspirational PARTNERSHIPS between local
communities, central government, international funders and independent
advisors
which are bringing deserts back to life.
Planting drought-tolerant acacias
as part
of a holistic management approach brings economic and social regeneration
for some
of the world's poorest communities. Soil stabilised by roots becomes
fertile,
protected against erosion, absorbing rainfall and limiting run-off and
consequent
flooding. This results in increased local employment and food security,
greater
economic autonomy, co-operation in social initiatives and direct
improvements in
health and education as shown in this inspiring film of the Loess Plateau
by John
Liu
